Hey there,
You’re in for a treat with this week’s newsletter.
Here’s why:
As a hiring manager, I’ve seen hundreds (if not thousands!) of job application mistakes.
And after reviewing countless resumes, I’ve boiled it down to three major mistakes most job seekers make.
If you eliminate these three? Your chances of getting hired will skyrocket by at least 300%.
Let’s dive in. |
🏢 Corporate Hack of the Week: The Magic of the Follow-Up
Have you heard the phrase, "The magic is in the follow-up"?
For me and my mentees, it has proven 100% true.
Most job seekers apply and wait.
But if you want to drastically boost your response rate, here’s what to do:
🔹 After submitting your application, send a thoughtful follow-up email.
How to do it right:✔ Timing: Wait 3-5 days after applying. ✔ Keep it brief: Thank them for considering your application, express why you’re excited about the role, and mention why you're a great fit. ✔ Include something new: Add a brief update or relevant insight to strengthen your case. (Example: Mention a recent accomplishment that aligns with the role.)
That’s it.
Sometimes, all it takes is one follow-up to stand out from the crowd.

⚔️ 3 Lousy Resume Mistakes (That Almost Everyone Makes!)
Got 5 minutes?
I reviewed 50 resumes last month, and to my surprise…
🚨 Almost EVERYONE made the same three mistakes.
As a hiring manager, it’s frustratinggggg.
But today, I’m here to fix it for you.
🚫 Mistake #1: Listing “Single-Word” Skills
This is the worst advice out there.
And what’s worse?
Some career coaches (who have never worked in corporate) charge thousands of dollars to tell people to do this.
Yes, ATS software scans for keywords. But guess what?
The software does not make the final hiring decision—humans do.
When I see a list of random skills on a resume, it’s a huge turn-off because it tells me nothing about your actual experience.
Instead…
✅ Use that space to show how you applied your skills.✅ Write a short sentence describing what you did with that skill.
💡 Example: ❌ Excel, Communication, Leadership✅ Developed a custom Excel dashboard to track sales, improving reporting efficiency by 40%.
🚫 Mistake #2: Weak Bullet Points
Your bullet points should be action-oriented.
The best format? Action + Result.
💡 Example:
❌ Helped grow the email list and revenue for the company.✅ Developed and launched an email marketing campaign using Mailchimp, increasing open rates by 25% and conversions by 15%.
Bonus tip:Mention software relevant to the role—it shows you already have the skills they need!
🚫 Mistake #3: Poor Resume Structure
This is a sequence problem.
You might have great experience, but if it’s not in the right order, hiring managers won’t move forward with your application.
You’re dealing with busy people.
Your resume needs to grab their attention fast.
Fix it with this simple trick:🔹 Create a summary section at the top highlighting your biggest achievements.🔹 Use a strong headline that quickly shows your value.
💡 Example:
✅ "Marketing Manager | 5+ Years Experience | Grew Revenue 150% in 2 Years"
This one tweak can dramatically increase your chances of getting hired. |
🌟 Quote of the Week
Here’s a quote that hit deep this week.
If you struggle with seeking validation from others, this one's for you:
"Don't ask yourself what the world needs. Ask yourself what makes you come alive, and go do that. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive."
– Howard Thurman
