Failing to ace interviews? Read why.

Hey there,

I’m about to reveal the #1 reason why most students struggle to crack interviews.

A few days ago, I was chatting with one of my mentees.

She asked me something I hear often:

“Why do so many students get rejected in interviews?”

Can YOU guess the reason?

Is it…

  • Lack of experience?

  • Missing skills?

  • Poor presentation?

Nope.

The real answer?

It’s mindset.

Let me explain…

When you’re in a back-and-forth conversation with a hiring manager, they can sense your mindset.

And there are a few things that immediately turn them off—regardless of your qualifications.

As someone who’s been a hiring manager and coached dozens of students into jobs, I’ve seen this firsthand.

Here are the 3 most common mindset issues:

❌ Mindset Mistake #1: Desperation

Desperation makes people do desperate things.

Like slapping the “Open to Work” banner on LinkedIn.

Or cold messaging recruiters with no clear plan.

If you’re serious about landing a job:

Have a strategy.

Ask friends, colleagues, and your network for connections.

Desperation pushes people away—it doesn’t bring opportunities closer.

❌ Mindset Mistake #2: Neediness

Neediness is off-putting.

Even if you're a great candidate, acting like you need the job can cost you.

Hiring managers want to hire people who:

  • Want the job

  • Are qualified for the job

  • Don’t seem like they need the job to survive

Own your value. Move with calm confidence.

❌ Mindset Mistake #3: Inferiority

You have to believe you’re worthy of the job before they believe it.

Confidence doesn’t come after getting hired.

It’s what helps get you hired in the first place.

Avoiding salary negotiations is another sign of inferiority.

Know your worth—and speak it with clarity.

So, which of these three mindsets do you need to work on?

Leave a comment and let me know.

I’ll turn the most common response into a video for IG.

That’s it for today.

Talk soon,

Katie
